CD and DVD Duplication
Ever since the optical disc came into existence, it has become one of
the most popular means of storage for data. Whether the
information is music or specific data for businesses, CDs and DVDs have
been established as a cost effective means of storing data. One
concern about CDs and DVDs, however, is that the data they hold are
usually needed to be duplicated. This can be for back up purposes
or for distribution purposes. This is where CD and DVD
duplication comes in.
How does CD and DVD duplication work? The basic idea is to copy
the data embedded into the discs and then burning it onto blank
discs. The process is called burning because a laser actually
burns marks on the disc. This is possible as the inner disc
surface is covered by a thin layer of chemical dye which is sensitive
to the laser. In order to get high quality results, it is
imperative that high quality blank discs be used for CD and DVD
duplication.
Prior to duplicating the discs, however, the original CD or DVD needs
to be mastered. Mastering is one of the most important things
when it comes to CD and DVD production. This is the process
whereby the tracks or songs in the disc are given the finishing touches
to make them sound perfect. Once this is done, the disc can be
duplicated.
For small quantities, this can actually be done similar to how the
average person burns a copy of a CD or DVD using his home PC. For
larger quantities, though, this can be done by using a specific CD and
DVD duplicator machine. For large scale operations, robotic
duplicators are used. These machines can run for long periods of
time unattended without the need for human operators to load and unload
the discs.
Once the data has been burned onto the discs, the discs need to be
printed on. There are a variety of ways by which this can be
done. One of the most popular choices is thermal transfer
printing. This is done by melting a coat of colored ribbon onto
the surface of the disc. Another popular method is inkjet
printing. For this method, special CDs and DVDs are needed as
their surface has to be able to absorb the ink from the printer.
Inkjet printing is usually incorporated into the robotic systems
mentioned above, making for convenient and fast CD and DVD duplication.
Silkscreen printing is another way by which you can print on CDs and
DVDs. This is quite cost effective for mass production.
Since it makes use of only 5 colors, the results are best seen for
designs which are simple and of few colors. Lithographic or
modern offset printing is another common means of printing onto
discs. This is the most viable option if you are looking for high
quality intricate designs for mass production.
There are many CD and DVD duplication companies offering their
services.
Depending on the company, they have minimum
requirements for mass production.
